My real name is Jenn (yes, two n's), and I'm a recently-turned eighteen-year-old. I adore dogs and dog sports, I love writing, and, ironically, I've only seen the ocean once. My senior year of high school is coming to a close and I need something to get my mind off of the stress that comes with it. I've roleplayed basically all my online life, on and off. I hadn't realized how much I missed it until I came upon this site.
Anyway, I'm going to study Wildlife Biology in college. My dream job would be a professional dog agility trainer, but I figured I needed to be a little more realistic than that.
I'm kinda shy at first so don't be put off, but I love plotting with anyone and everyone so please don't ever hesitate.
Also, what are your favorite dog breeds? This question is always my favorite to ask. Herding breeds do it for me: I adore Border Collies, Mudik, and all variants of the Belgian Shepherd.
Senior year is over before you know it, and then you'll miss high school. Make good grades. Going into Wildlife Biology after high school is super cool, though. Had the whole 'choose your college' thing not been pushed so quickly and so hard, I might have remembered that I wanted to do something with animals. ;; Y'all are so cool.
You'll definitely have to plot with me. :I We'll become besties while Mari and Impulse... do whatever the plot says.
I love... all dog breeds? :'D I love mutts the most, but for actual breeds... Hm, I think Great Danes, Labrador Retrievers, all Bully breeds, and Catahoulas.
Thank you! I'm super excited to start and yes we must be besties I can feel it already.
I am going to miss it.. I think I already do. But I'm ready for some new adventures, I think! And I'm going a few states away for college so we'll see how that goes.
What are you studying? I'm sure it's something cool. And yeah, I can relate to the whole college choice thing. It's ridiculous how much they put on a kid's shoulders.
Oh lawdy I love Catahoulas, we had some when I was younger. Mutts are always great though! Fun to roleplay, too, because you can go crazy with the breeds.
I moved about halfway across the country (not hard since I was in the middle anyway) to study computer science... Well, programming and game making rather than deep into computer science. I'm really only looking forwards to AI so I can take over the world make my introverted self friends. :I
We thought that one of my dogs was a Catahoula mix when he was younger because he closely resembled a Catahoula puppy, but as he grew all of his spots kind of disappeared. We got a DNA test for him and the other dogs, and I forgot what most of his DNA was comprised of... Other than Labrador. Labrador and five other dogs.
Hi! So, now I can formally introduce myself after a hectic Sunday!
My name is Quirky Tea or Q.T. for short. I also love dogs. And writing! I actually work as a dog trainer and it's the funnest job. I love every second of it. I graduated from college a few years ago. I started as a Biochem major and was getting A's, but my passion was dog training. I switched majors and have never looked back. It was definitely a good decision. I had a dog training internship and have my degree in Psych (focused on learning + motivation).
My favorite dogs to work with: Terriers and the harder tempered herders. My own dog is a terrier x cattle dog mix I picked up at the shelter 6 months ago. She's everything I love in a dog: She's quirky and fiery and drivey and sensitive and intense.
Dog training is such an interesting topic to me. I actually work at a small business dog boarding/training facility, and while I love taking care of the dogs, the training aspects are not my favorite. My boss uses force to train, like slip collars and prongs. I, in turn, have to use them as well when I go on walks with the dogs and it has never sat right with me. I've gotten super into positive reinforcement methods, specifically clicker training. It's so interesting and I feel like it's a much deeper communication level reached with your dog.
Anyway yeah I'm rambling but any time you want to talk training hit me up. I might ask you a few questions as well!
Definitely ask me questions! I am definitely a R+ trainer. I use clicker training with my dog and my guinea pigs (RIP Toora-Loora). My one guinea pig, Fiona, has a trick dog title! I love working with my terrier mix girl. A lot of what I'm doing is just getting her comfortable with her environment because she used to be so scared. I can use food, but when she sees food, she's fine. Or if she doesn't see the food, but then gets her reward, she's fine. She is SUPER drivey and will take even kibble even if she's on the brink of a melt down.
So... I'm taking Bogeyman course with her in Fenzi's Academy this session. Last session we did Cooperative Canine Care. I was already passionate about cooperative care with all my pets, but I definitely learned tons from the course and highly recommend it. It turned Pip from "Oooh, nail cutting is okay, I guess I'll just sit here for cookies" to "Mommy, can you please cut my nails. All of them?" (No, Pip, your nails are too tiny. There is no more to cut.)
