Appearance
Height: 23 inches at shoulderBuild: compact, streamlined, lean
Description:
The purpose of Impulse's structure is simple: efficiency. Starting from the front, her head is smaller and compact but holds the well-developed jaw muscles she takes pride in. A narrow muzzle fans out into a sharp-featured face, consisting of almond eyes that rage silver when she is overly emotional to the prick of her ears. A black mask covers her entire face and melts down into her chest, legs, and paws. In the middle of her chest is a splotch of white fur that contrasts with the already dark color. The base of her pelt is a sandy tan with varying shades of intensity. The tight muscles in her body are clear under her coat, and Impulse is rarely, if ever, totally relaxed. To top it off is a black tail tip.
Because of her variation, she was born with two fairly small horns that resemble crystals found in underground caves. They always glow a faint, dark green, and brighten when she is more emotionally aroused. With that, her eyes take on a silvery glint, creating a reflective surface. They are especially noticeable due to her dark face mask. Because of this, she and her brother are most often referred to as "the masked ones," as they travel together always.
Personality
Skills: persuasion, harsh bite, huntingAbilities: hypnosis, telepathy
Description:
Impulse did a fairly good job of living up to her name--she guides her decision making with her heart, not her mind. It was her brother, Momentum, who inherited the iron mind from their parents. Not to say she isn't intelligent, no. She is the one who can talk her way out of a situation. Impulse is liquid like that--she is an amazing actress and adapts easily to new situations. She is usually the first to talk to strangers, her brother prefers to watch closely. While she doesn't mind fibbing, she generally likes to stick to the truth, and expects the same consideration in return. If she doesn't get it, she'll know.
Due to the sheltered life she led for over a year, she wants to investigate every new canine she crosses paths with. Do not confuse this with immediate friendliness, she is cautious with strangers at first. Her curiosity is off the charts, which generally leads to trouble. Impulse has taught herself how to get out of dangerous situations, but Momentum is usually good at keeping her in line. She gets overstimulated easily, and when she does, she has a hard time thinking straight.
She does not have many strong relationships, but when she forms them, she is very protective. Impulse would without a doubt risk her life to save her brother's. Momentum is akin to a god in her mind, though she would never admit it aloud. He has carried the burden of keeping them alive. She can pull her own weight, of course, but she knows that she would be just a carcass decomposing into the earth if it weren't for her sibling. Her love for him is strong, and it's often the only thing keeping her going.
History
Lineage: Father: Torrent | Basal (Watchdog) | deceased
Mother: Capsize | Esper | deceased
Sibling(s): Momentum | Esper | alive
Background:
There was nothing romantic about Capsize's relationship with Torrent, their coupling was merely to breed a litter with the best available parents. The two were members of a small gang that clung together for no reason other than survival. Friendships were few and far between. There was a rule agreed on early that there should be only one litter per female. Any more, and the group could get too big. Being too big meant more attention brought upon themselves. This was the opposite of what the dogs wanted.
Capsize had one surviving pup of nine months when Torrent decided to take advantage of her one night. It ended disastrously, with him dead on the ground, bleeding out from the neck wound she gave him. She passed it off as him attacking her first, and because no dog cared, she got away with it. Still, the damage had been done. She gave birth to her second litter eight weeks later. One of Torrent's mistresses found the puppies when she followed Capsize and had no qualms about telling the rest of the gang. The newly born pups faced execution. The mother managed to grab one pup and thrust it at her oldest son, branding him with the words "your sister, your responsibility."
With the rest of his family gone, killed in front of his eyes, ten-month-old Momentum was left to raise Impulse on his own. Not only that, but it had to be done in secret. He found a hole in the wall of a ragged old building and hid her there. Her first memories are of him creating a bed of feathers, flowers, and other soft items for her, and she remembers him chewing up his food for her to eat. She didn't realize until later that he was using much of his given rations on her.
For an entire year, they stayed this way. She never left the confines of her wall in fear of being seen. Impulse would never risk her brother's life in such a way. She grew well, thanks to her brother's care, but both were malnourished from splitting rations meant for one dog. Momentum taught her all he knew of their powers and the skills he was learning through their small pack. It was enough, she supposed. But her brother approached one dewy morning, shoving his body into the small hole, saying, "you know we can't stay here, right? we need to leave before they find you."
And so one day, they did. The siblings stuck close together, never straying too far from sight. They made it their goal to hone their skills to perfection, so each day they upheld a strict regiment to prepare their minds and bodies. Before long they had regained weight and then some in muscle mass, and at the sign of danger, both were alert and ready. It was her brother who dealt with many of the fights they got into, and he still has the scars to prove it. Guilt often overrides her when she sees them, because he got most of them from fixing her mistakes. To this day, though, she loves him more than anything, and the duo continues their search for survival together.
