Description:
Yulie is a dog that stands with the pride one expects to see from a dog from Winterwood. Like most of her breed, she is a dark midnight with long, sweeping double coat that is hard and dense. She has a rather fluffy, thick coat along her body, but her face holds sharp features: a tapered, held-high snout, and alert, coned ears. Her eyes are a rich cinnamon in color, and her muzzle sports white at the very end. Her tail is quite like a brush, sporting long sweeping fur like the rest of her body. The edges of her dark fur often appear rusted bronze in the sunlight, but more often her fur is matted with snow. Her last distinctive marking is a small patch of white fur on her chest.
Oh, and she has a mostly bionic left foreleg, which she keeps as more or less a secret.
Personality
Skills: Leadership, hunting, cunning, creative thinking skills.Abilities: Healing (self) and general understanding of robotics, suited to northern living.
Description:
Yulie could have very easily become downtrodden, quiet and obedient-- but instead she's always been one to question and think things over, even if she knows how to hold her tongue. Her confidence is probably her biggest, most readily apparent character trait. She always holds herself high, and even in the face of danger she is unwavering. She will tackle a problem until she finds a solution, and rarely ever is discouraged from trying again.
She has a deep respect for tradition and while she is slow to change, she would rather adapt than die. She is hardy, willing to do whatever it takes to survive unless it means hurting another. She has a high sense of what it means to be a member of a pack, and strives to do her best by her packmates. She is the kind of sort who would never actively betray her pack, no matter what the circumstances. She will, however, seek to change her pack if she thinks something is wrong. This is her home, and she will likely die before she leaves them behind.
Unfortunately, Yulie can be rather overbearing and serious. She rarely makes light of anything, and can sometimes get distracted by thoughts that she finds more important than idle conversation. She isn't the easiest to get along with, but most dogs find her to be a loyal, good dog even if she isn't the happy-go-lucky, jokester playmate some are looking for.
History
Lineage:Father: Olwen | Deaf | Lethal White Basal | deceased
Mother: Nanna | Augment | deceased
Sibling(s):
Rostislav | Male | Lethal White Basal | unknown
Olya | Female | Augment | deceased
Ivanna | Female | Augment | alive
Background:
Nanna was born in Starlet, a beautiful canine of pure breed, ready to work for her master. Those who knew the fierce Belgian Sheperd would see her in her offspring, for she was a high-strung, intelligent canine with a real spirit to her. Bought off by a nomad from her breeder, she was taken from the busy city life into the great wilderness. The man owned another dog who appeared a lot like her, except for the fact he was oddly mottled white instead of the pure black of her breed. The male's name was Olwen, a doofy idiot of a dog with hearing problems that he took in absolute stride.
Her owner had the full intention of breeding them and hoping to have pups he could work with, since Olwen was a good companion but rather useless at much more than getting lost. Nanna came to love the both of them, her human and her fated mate, but Olwen was absolutely frustrating at times. Often he would wander off and she would have to hunt him down, her job ending up more of herding the human and her mate together than much else. The human kept them fed and alive despite everything, and soon Nanna was pregnant.
Only a month later, Olwen spotted something in the distance and bolted towards it. With a huff, Nanna was after him, their human not long behind. A horrible monstrosity, some kind of mutant creature, charged towards them. Olwen met it head on, only barely stopping it with a cry of pain. Nanna stopped in her tracks, her owner grabbing her by her collar. In an instant, her master had removed her collar and pushed her towards the forest in the distance.
Olwen fought valiantly as she ran, stopping only to check that her human was behind her, confused and frightened. Her master came running after her as a piercing scream came from her mate and abruptly stopped, and then the monster was charging after them. Nanna redoubled her efforts to flee, forcing herself to ignore the agonizing cries of her human-- if she did not get away before the mutant was done with him, there would be nothing left of any of them.
Nanna escaped with her life and her unborn puppies only to stumble into the Winterwood Pack. She quickly found her home among them, though her new family did little to heal the empty hole in her heart. With the Winterwood's Litter Blessing Ceremony and the blessing from the Shaman, her puppies came into the world safely. Four beautiful pups, only one as pure white as his father. The others, a little boy and two precious girls, seemed quite healthy. She named them all, assured that with names they would find strength to survive the harsh north:
Rostislav, the white boy who would grow and find glory.
Olya, the runt, a tiny black girl named after her father with squirmy paws.
Ivanna, the quietest girl who she believed had the gentlest heart.
And lastly, Yulian, with a fierce bark and the first to open his eyes.
Olya was the only one who did not survive the harsh winter. Nanna took careful care to take care of her children, constantly checking that Rostislav did not have any horrible defects-- but soon his fur grew darker, and the proud mother had a proper family again. She found her place among the pack, and so did her children.
At a young age, Yulian became friends with a poofy white oddball, Valeriya-- later to be known by Boris. The two seemed like total opposites; and in the end, it was really the Samoyed who helped Yulie realize that she felt a lot better being called Yulianna. The pair were closer than anything, even taking their Winter Survival Test together when they turned three.
Yulianna has always been deeply entrenched in the pack's tradition. She grew up with it, and her mother spoke little of her previous life because Yulie rarely asked. She was loyal and eager to prove herself-- but the Winter Survival Trial has never been easy.
During the test, a hunt had gone horribly wrong. A young deer had kicked her and broken her leg, and while Boris stuck close to keep her safe, her nanobots were forced to work quickly to repair the bone. She pushed her body to recover, and in doing so, repaired the bone poorly. The metal structure couldn't handle the cold, and though she and her partner survived the trial, the effects of the augment painful and nearly intolerable to deal with, much less hide.
Once the trial was over, Yulianna did whatever she could to find a solution. It wasn't until she had found a Watcher, namely an Accentor that had been made to suffer the cold. For weeks she stalked the human and the machine, noticing that it seemed unaffected mostly by the cold. Enlisting the help of Boris, she managed to separate the Watcher from its owner and destroy it, shredding it apart.
Yulianna then had to break her own leg again. It was a bit more difficult to do it on purpose, but the metal in her bone was brittle from the cold anyway. She spent much longer on repairs this time, taking apart the Accentor to create a nearly completely cybernetic leg, all aside from her flesh and fur and the main muscles. It's a secret she's kept from just about everyone but Boris, but also her greatest achievement.
As for the rest of Yulie's family, well... Rostislav and Ivanna took the Winter Survival Test together. The following summer, their Rostislav learned of Nicolas' abuse of power and brought his family together to insist that Nanna do something. It was a perfect opportunity for their family to sieze power, but she refused. Rostislav disappeared soon after, and Nanna took an aggressive stance against Nicolas and was quickly disposed of for being a traitor.
Yulie and Ivanna feigned ignorance, going as far as to not even mourn their mother properly to avoid Nicolas' immediate wrath. The two remaining sisters speak little to each other as it is. If it wasn't for Boris, and a few other good dogs in her pack, Yulie might have followed after her brother.
Instead, she finds herself searching for a way to bring an end to the oppression.
