Not Who I Expected [Kairos]

Now that the most intense moment of the meeting was over, Kairos could see Finley relax away from Alpha attitude to a more casual mode of operation.  It was interesting to see someone have so many different faces to put on. Kairos, like many young HERD members, he had been so rigorously trained in ever moment of his life that it became his personality. And only after he was comfortable with his life and how it would be did he search deeper for who he was. And Kairos, being so afraid that he would lose sight of that part of him that he clung to it and forced the two contrasting sides together. It made him weird; until he had gotten a team he was a bit of an outcast for being so nonchalant and silly. But Kairos was ultimately happy that he had made that choice. It was what made his heartland team so endearing...Kairos could only hope that one day they would see what he sees and join him.

Finley spoke of achieving many ranks in her time within the pack. He could assume that she was bon in it and it was all she knew, but it was enough for her. They were similar in that aspect; even if they hadn't explored all that there was what they had was enough.

"No no, you are right. Passion is a must for what we are doing." Kairos offered with a confidant smile. He looked into her glowing eyes and wondered if there was something more. Did using her powers relieve her pain? He had heard that they tended to work in quite the opposite way and that they can be detrimental. 

After a moment of just enjoying the walk, they began to talk about the pack business again. He pondered her words for a moment and then began to chuckle.

"Well probation is one way of looking at it, but it certainly isn't as bad as you make it sound. You are free to visit our pack as you wish; like your own, I plan for it to be open boarders. As for information, I am willing to share just about everything that isn't classified by the orders of HERD. We tend to have a policy where information is either open to the public and encouraged to share or not even allowed to be mentioned. I will try to steer my pack away from the later aspects of HERD, and because such there really isn't anything that I'm uncomfortable telling you about within the pack." Kairos admitted. Shrugging his shoulders, he continued. "I'd like to have a more natural relationship as well. Its just that at the time I have to respond in acknowledgement of my pack's feelings. That, and I must cover my back until I've proven I can handle this role to HERD."

[attr="class","finleybody"]A sweet smile lit up Finley's face when Kairos told her that he'd try to be as transparent as he could. Given that he seemed subservient to the humans in some way, it made sense that all of the information wouldn't be at her beck and call. She only gave a weary smile as she moved in her altered gait. She kept her legs moving. She had, the entire time, been perfectly able to move without much pain. It was just that being pitiful seemed to touch a tender chord with Kairos. [break][break] "Open borders? I quite like that." She had a pleasant voice that made her sound young and naive despite her experience and age. While she was younger than Kairos by a few months, she more than made up for it with mettle and the horrors she had seen and lived through in her life. [break][break] With every step, there was that old, familiar ache in her leg. A reminder of the months where they were breaking and re-breaking her limb, forcing the bones straight instead of the twisted pretzel of a leg she was born with. And then, while she herself was a Subject, her deformity a medical experiment, she was a Scientist. And she could remember those quiet mornings where she'd wake up and conduct her own experiments and then the evenings where they taught her how to use the leg they had rebuilt for her using her own flesh and bone. That said, she did like this flawed aspect of her. It lent itself to manipulating the soft-hearted if she just played up her limp, her vanity, her pain.  [break][break] "Ah yes, the pack's feelings. It's strange. When you are a leader, that you represent not just yourself, but an entity far bigger than what you are. It sometimes can feel a bit... difficult." But fun, oh my goodness how fun it is. To guess how this sleeping monster named Ash River Project should act when questioned, when attacked, when pulled into the light... My leadership of this pack might just yet be my greatest experiment. Finley sighed to put her racing thoughts to rest and also to find the next words to say, "New leaders... I say that Canaria is coming to a new era. Have you heard of the power-mad Alpha of Winterwood? It's not just Ash River and Flaxrown turning new leaves. Perhaps Winterwood is next, too. Kairos was beginning to note that it was quite a far walk between the two packs. Finley seemed as if her leg was troubling her. It took all of his power not to take action. He had carried dogs with splinted legs across his back to the nearest medical supplier before, and it seemed like the natural course of action, if not instinctive reaction, for him now. But he had to remind himself that she had walked up here without by herself. Not only did that imply that she could do it, but her pack trusted that making such a journey alone would be fine. Finley was definitely more than what she was letting on and even more than what she had said she was.  Yes, she was more than a naive girl, but how did she get the pack to see her that way. Of course she had been through many ranks within the pack, but how did she achieve that? These were the questions that would reveal who Finley truly was and what the pack represented to an extent.

No matter what dark or simple things that comprised Finley, they at least had an agreement on what it meant to be alpha. He hummed with agreement to her words and then perked his ears when she began to speak about another pack. He actually hadn't even known there was a third large pack in Canaria. Being stationed in the heartlands sort of grounded him there. "Hmm...I actually didn't know that and I do hope that is the case. I'd like to see all of Canaria moving forward together into a new era would be magical. It would be a rather interesting thing to go down in its history too." Kairos thought fondly.

Hearing that another power-mad Alpha was in charge of it stirred him up a little, but he acknowledged that there was nothing he could do or had to. Dogs were hardy creatures; ones who naturally knew right from wrong. When the time comes, the pack members would step up and do whats right.
