[attr="class","ARPtitle"]The Ranking System Explanation
[attr="class","ARPpara"]Ash River Project employs the use of a two part ranking system. The first part of the rank is the dog's actual rank and uses the Greek Alphabet: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, etc. This denotes skill-level and leadership in the pack. The second part of the rank is the dog's position in the pack, which describes the individual's aptitudes and preferences: Physician, Mercenary, etc. The top leadership ranks represent the exceptions to this two part ranking rule, as the topmost leadership positions typically require multiple aptitudes.
[attr="class","ARPsubtitle"]Skill & Leadership Ranking
[attr="class","ARPpara"]This is the Greek letter which denotes the dog's skill in their position in the pack. Even the Citizens and Subjects have two part ranks.
[break][break]
Alpha Α [break] The pair who leads the pack. You can call them mates, but they function more like partners: Professional, business-like. They compliment each other. The mate of an Alpha does not inherit the rank.
[break][break]
Beta Β [break] Dogs who the Alphas trust the counsel of above others. There is a Cunning Beta and a Curious Beta. Their mates do not inherit the rank.
[break][break]
Gamma Γ [break] They are the leaders of their respective positions.
[break][break]
Delta Δ [break] Particularly skilled individuals of their ranks. May be called to mentor a Zeta.
[break][break]
Epsilon Ε [break] The default rank of a dog who is functional in his or her position.
[break][break]
Zeta Ζ [break] The training rank for the position.
[break][break]
Eta Η [break] A canine lacking skills useful for a position in the pack and is not in training, but protected by pack laws.
[break][break]
Omega Ω [break] The lowest of the low, the Omega is offered for the pack to do with as they please.

[attr="class","ARPsubtitle"]The Cunning
[attr="class","ARPpara"]The Cunning is known for their ruthlessness, their resourcefulness, and, of course, their cunning. These are dogs who might not be as interested in learning all they can about the world they live in, but they respect the Curious and they are important to the smooth running of the pack.
[break][break]
Mercenaries [break]
Dogs who leave the pack boundaries to wreak havoc. Often times, they leave themselves for hire for other dogs and accomplish missions given to them by their higher ups. It's a versatile position. At home, they guard the pack.
[break][break]
Grifters [break]
These are the silver-tongued con-artists of Ash River and are skilled liars and master manipulators. They can coax dogs into their packs to become citizens and roam the countryside to find dogs who'd like some help from Ash River. Though, making a deal with them is quite literally like making a deal with the devil.
[break][break]
Executioners[break]
Those crazy dogs who had a certain bloodthirst to them and are highly skilled at destroying a dog's life. They are usually called to end the life of a hapless, used Subject who is more useful dead than alive. They are also highly skilled in torture. Most Executioners are too unstable to be Mercenaries, but are celebrated for who they are in this position.

[attr="class","ARPsubtitle"]The Curious
[attr="class","ARPpara"]These are the dogs that seek knowledge and are known for their eccentricity and curiosity. They are passionate and usually highly intelligent. Most of the jobs here are quite specialized. They often lecture their findings to others who may be interested in the results.
[break][break]
Scientists[break]
These are the dogs who design and carry out experiments. They are allowed to research whatever tickles their fancy. They sometimes take requests for what to study. This is the versatile position for the Curious.
[break][break]
Physicians[break]
Dogs who are incredibly skilled in the healing arts due to the amount of practice they get. They have knowledge of herbs and, coincidentally, poisons. They work to keep experimental subjects from dying and also to heal others within the pack and out of the pack as well.
[break][break]
Spies [break]
Dogs who collect intelligence for the pack. These dogs can fully integrate themselves into a group or pack and collect information in order to add knowledge to the pack. They may also gather intelligence by being inconspicuous or hidden or recording information.

[attr="class","ARPsubtitle"]The Following
[attr="class","ARPpara"]Dogs who have yet to find their place or who have found their place as the playthings of the ones ranked above them.
[break][break]
Citizens[break]
These are dogs that have proved themselves interesting enough to the Alphas to get into Ash River but haven't yet found their rank. This is also the rank for those too young or too old to be effective in a rank.
[break][break]
Subjects[break]
These are dogs subject to experimentation. Some are slaves to pay for the favors they have asked of the pack and are then released when they have paid their debts. Regardless of where they come from or why they are there, subjects are protected by the pack from outsiders.
